Biography

Wayne O’Neill has over 25 years of experience in “connecting the dots" in the design, construction and IT consulting industry. Wayne translates that skill into client delight (as opposed to simply client satisfaction) and profitable account development. His skills are rooted in connecting with clients around business and political issues… that in turn drive the services required for effective project delivery. Throughout his career, he has worked for nationally ranked firms. His practice currently includes several retained clients with national practices in the design, private equity financing, and IT consulting fields.

Prior to starting his own consulting practice, Wayne held a national account development leadership role for 14 years with Gilbane, a project management, construction management, and development firm with expertise in educational facilities, healthcare facilities, airports, convention centers, research facilities as well as corporate headquarters. During his tenure, Wayne played a significant role in the ramping up of centers of excellence in Healthcare and Mission Critical for the firm. This included curriculum development to train operations, marketing, and business development staff in the business and political issues driving the segment …and the clients within that segment.

Wayne’s bend toward a “coaching “ style comes from his personal experience as part of several mentoring efforts within Gilbane. His core belief is rooted in his personal experience utilizing executive level coaching for skill and competency development for longer-term results.

Prior to Gilbane, Wayne had multi-regional responsibilities for client development at McDevitt & Street (currently Bovis). He began his design and construction industry career with PSA Architects (currently PSA Dewberry) and played a key part of the geographic expansion of the firm into new markets.

Wayne has maintained an active client intelligence effort in the area of Corporate, Mission Critical, Educational, Healthcare and miscellaneous institutional facilities. He stays current in these markets as well as several others through an additional facet of his practice…seminars for owners explaining the myths and realities of the project delivery process. During these seminars, Wayne shares the myths and realities inside today’s design, construction and program management firms. This full day seminar is conducted with both the leadership and fiduciary responsibility levels of clients and also delves into the various aspects of alternative project delivery methods from a layman’s perspective.

Another skill Wayne uses to improve his retained client’s effectiveness is to leverage his connections with value added driven firms from all levels in the project delivery process. Wayne actively connects leadership from these respective firms to share client intelligence…and ramp up the positioning strategies to truly differentiate the team. In many cases this can minimize the impact of the classic “low fee/political overtone” selection process.

From a community involvement standpoint, He has served the South Montgomery County Woodlands Chamber of Commerce (the region’s 2nd largest chamber) as Chairman. He was a 3-year member of the Leadership Montgomery County Steering Committee (as well as a graduate). In addition, Wayne has served as team leader for the Annual Economic Outlook Conference held in The Woodlands, Texas. This is also a component of staying connected to current client issues.

Professionally, Wayne has been a national board member in SMPS. He has been the president of the DFW chapter and a board member for the Houston chapter of that organization.

Wayne holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Tech University and the University of Texas. Which is why his daughter attends UT and his son attends Texas Tech. Go Horns…Go Red Raiders…

He is currently writing a book on Account Development Coaching and its impact in the design, construction, and IT consulting industry. It is due to be published this fall.
